I look for the
art, not
the score
I have photographed and filmed sport since my freshman year of high school and am entering my senior year of college. My work is built on a cinematic approach to athletics: I am looking for the composition and the light in a race, not only the motion and the result.
I work with clubs, collegiate programs, juniors and masters alike. Most of my rowing coverage is shot from the launch, with regatta work from the shore, and I document the full arc of a race day — boathouse and dock, the warm-up, the racing itself. Rowing remains an under-documented sport. As a Division I coxswain who has been in the boat since seventh grade, I understand the effort the sport asks for and how to photograph it credibly.
